In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s recent move, players now have the option to unlock the new Sirin 9mm submachine gun ahead of schedule by buying a special bundle from the in-game store. Initially planned as the ultimate prize in the Hit List event, this weapon could only be obtained if the community achieved a staggering number of eliminations together. However, some fans aren’t too pleased with Treyarch’s decision, feeling that it undermines the spirit of the event.
The Hit List event launched in both Black Ops 6 and Warzone on November 21, offering a slew of rewards. Players have until December 5 to earn both personal and community-based rewards. For the community, to unlock the coveted Sirin 9mm SMG, players would need to amass an astronomical 50 billion eliminations. Along the way, there are other goodies like a new perk and scorestreak to snag. With the community still a long way from this target, Treyarch has opted to release the SMG as part of a new store bundle.
Some quick-to-act players have already unlocked items like the Shadow Perk and Buffer Weight Stock in the event. Still, a hefty 30 billion eliminations are needed for the Sirin 9mm SMG. But, for those who can’t wait, the solution seems to be a few clicks away — and 2,800 COD points — through the Call of Duty store. The recently introduced Cash Bandit bundle features a variety of cosmetic items, and importantly, a weapon blueprint for the yet-to-be-released submachine gun. Owning a blueprint in Black Ops 6 means that, essentially, the base weapon is permanently unlocked, allowing players to get their hands on the gun before the event officially reaches the target.
As you might expect, this hasn’t gone down well with the game’s community. Some players, like YouTuber JGOD, expressed disappointment over the weapon being tied behind a paywall before the event concludes. Others joined in, criticizing Treyarch for setting an extremely high community challenge, only to offer a paid shortcut as what they perceive to be an exploitative alternative.
Sadly, this isn’t the only controversy swirling around the latest Call of Duty installment. Just earlier this week, Treyarch dropped the much-awaited Replacer bundle. Fans were excited about this, especially since it featured a beloved character from Black Ops’ marketing. The excitement, however, was short-lived when it emerged that the Blackcell Battle Pass was needed to unlock an additional operator variant, potentially doubling the cost for those wishing to access all the goodies.
Released by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 throws players into the high-stakes world of espionage in the early 90s, a period characterized by global upheaval and the end of the Cold War. Known for its gripping narrative and signature style, Black Ops 6 offers a dynamic campaign filled with intense missions and espionage activities. The game also shines in its multiplayer mode, offering 16 new maps at launch, and marks the return of the beloved Round-Based Zombies mode with new maps available from the get-go and more on the way.
Whether you’re diving into epic battles or battling the undead, there’s plenty to explore in Black Ops 6. Despite the rocky reception of its microtransactions, the game continues to attract players eager to experience its rich content and thrilling gameplay.
