In an exciting development for VR boxing enthusiasts, Halfbrick Studios teamed up with Ian Fitz, the original mind behind The Thrill of the Fight (2016), to unveil the eagerly anticipated sequel to this beloved boxing simulator. Fans can now step into the virtual ring with The Thrill of the Fight 2, which has just been released in Early Access for Quest devices, covering Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S, and Quest Pro.
The sequel reinvents the original game by bringing something fresh and exciting—online PvP boxing, a feature many players have been longing for. This new version goes beyond the PvE bouts that defined its predecessor. For now, in its Early Access phase, the focus is solely on multiplayer, catering to those itching to test their skills against other players in real time.
According to Halfbrick Studios, “This early release of the game will include only multiplayer modes, giving fans eager for online play the chance to jump in without delay.” However, players can look forward to more. The developers are hard at work on single-player content and further enhancements to multiplayer, slated to be rolled out gradually during this Early Access period.
Looking ahead to 2025, Halfbrick Studios plans to expand the game significantly. Players can expect the arrival of competitive AI foes with unique behaviors and appearances, alongside additional training modes that will deepen the solo experience. Throughout Early Access, there will be regular updates, each adding layers of content and refining the game to deliver a fully immersive boxing experience.
Current gameplay features include customizable avatars, an online PvP mode with skill-based matchmaking, and physics that aim to replicate the authenticity of being in the boxing ring. Additionally, The Thrill of the Fight 2 introduces a spectator camera feature, providing a ‘live sports’ broadcast feel for those watching matches from a connected PC.
If you’re ready to lace up your virtual gloves and jump into the action, The Thrill of the Fight 2 is available now on the Horizon Store for Quest platform users, priced at an accessible $10. Get ready to step into the ring and experience the next generation of virtual boxing!
