Devolver Digital is at it again with their usual offbeat charm, unveiling the Devolver Delayed Awards. This pre-recorded “awards” event humorously shines a spotlight on three games that have seen their release dates pushed back to 2025.
True to Devolver’s signature style, the show is packed with tongue-in-cheek humor. They amusingly praised their developers for having the “courage and determination to push their games into the next fiscal year.” Let’s dive into some of the award categories, which include these playful, imaginary contenders:
– Best Inadvertent Tripping Simulator
– Best Late-Stage Capitalism Roguelite
– Best Glass Demon in a Leading Role
Apart from these quirky categories filled with imaginary titles (and yes, I’d happily dive into a Windshield Repair Simulator), the awards included speeches from the developers of the actual delayed games, all set to arrive sometime in 2025. Notably, Sam Eng from Skate Story has been dealing with a broken arm, so perhaps we should cut him some slack if the game takes a bit longer to roll out.
This isn’t Devolver’s first rodeo; they pulled a similar stunt back in 2023 with an entertaining twist on the Nintendo Direct format. Last year’s Devolver Delayed Showcase humorously announced delays for titles such as The Plucky Squire, Stick It to the Stickman, Anger Foot, Pepper Grinder, and Skate Story.
Even though delays can be tough from a business angle, it’s refreshing to see Devolver giving their developers the freedom to perfect their visions rather than rushing out incomplete games just to make a quick buck.
Devolver Digital’s official site mentions several other games like Possessor(s), Tenjutsu, Human Fall Flat 2, and Forestrike, which are also hanging in the balance without set release dates.
