Gaming powerhouse Tencent has recently unveiled a new title for PC, Light of Motiram, which strikingly resembles Sony’s renowned Horizon series developed by Guerrilla Games. The similarities aren’t merely superficial – Light of Motiram appears to closely echo the assets and themes found in Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West.
### Will Sony Sue Tencent Over Its Horizon Lookalike?
Developed by Tencent’s Polaris Quest, Light of Motiram is described as a “mechanimal-ruled open world” adventure. Players are thrust into a post-civilization landscape teeming with colossal machines, where survival depends on their skills and strategy.
When the trailer for Light of Motiram was released, the gaming community was quick to draw parallels with the situation between Palworld and Pokémon. Palworld, which borrows heavily from Pokémon, faced legal action from Nintendo as the company filed against its developer, Pocketpair, for patent infringement.
Gamers have voiced a mix of opinions about whether Sony should confront Tencent over such an obvious imitation. Some argue that Sony should protect its intellectual property, while others believe that taking legal action might be excessive.
Despite attempts by several media outlets to contact both Sony and Tencent for comments, neither has replied. Yet, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Sony decides to proceed with legal measures. Opting not to could potentially open the floodgates for imitators of their other well-loved franchises.
