Fans of Splitgate, your moment is almost here again. The buzz around the upcoming sequel to the popular shooter is growing, as sign-ups for playtests are now open.
From time to time, a shooter game pops up and captures everyone’s attention, seemingly out of the blue. This was the case with Splitgate back in 2021. While it may have looked like it emerged suddenly, it had actually been in early access for a couple of years before its indefinite beta swept players off their feet. Fast forward to the game’s full release the following year, and developer 1047 Games announced they were halting the feature development of their hybrid of Halo and Portal. Their reason? They were setting their sights on developing a sequel using Unreal Engine 5!
Earlier this year, the sequel was officially announced, with a release window slated for 2025. Now, as declared on the game’s official Twitter account, you have the chance to sign up for the game’s next playtest.
The announcement tweet encourages players to “Suit up and get ready for more Splitgate 2!” and mentions that the team has been crafting something explosive, eagerly awaiting player feedback. If you’re interested in joining the playtest, signing up is straightforward—just a Google form asking about your past experience with the first game, your recent shooter activities, and what platform you play on, among other things.
A heads-up, though: the form does ask for your Steam and Discord handles. It makes sense since the playtest will probably be conducted on Steam. However, if you’re someone who values your privacy, you might want to reconsider joining this particular test.
Back in September, our team member Connor had the opportunity to chat with the CEO of 1047 Games. They discussed how the team plans to keep the game fresh, drawing valuable lessons from titles like Halo Reach. It’s definitely worth a read!
