In the recent Delayed Awards ceremony, Devolver Digital shared that Baby Steps, developed by a small team including the creator of Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, will now see the light of day in 2025. Players will guide an “unemployed failson” out of his comfort zone and into the vast world by realistically taking one step at a time. The game is designed with intentionally challenging controls that echo what players have experienced in hard-to-master games like Octodad, promising both frustration and hilarity. Though originally slated for 2024, the new release window promises fans more time to anticipate this unique adventure.
As detailed on Devolver Digital’s official site, Baby Steps is set to feature, among other things, “fully-simulated physics-based walking,” an adaptable soundtrack, and a freely explorable environment complete with peculiar additions like non-collectible hats and a bizarre “fully dynamic onesie soilage system.” A sneak peek at the gameplay reveals a protagonist that seems to not take himself too seriously, wonderfully fitting the style of other popular quirky simulators.
