The much-anticipated co-op mode for Green Hell VR, a popular virtual reality survival game developed by Incuvo, is finally making its debut this month for Quest and PSVR 2 users. Known for its immersive and challenging solo gameplay, the VR version of Green Hell, released in 2022, is expanding its scope to enhance the player experience with team play.
Initially teased back in April 2023, the new co-op feature is set to launch on December 16th. It will be available as a free update for those who already own the game on PSVR 2 and Quest devices, including Quest 2, 3, and the 3S models.
With this co-op mode, players can now band together in groups of up to four. They can use either melee or ranged weapons to hunt and defend themselves against the various dangers lurking in the jungle. From deadly wildlife to harsh weather conditions, having a team means players can support each other, build shelters, and even tend to injuries — such as removing pesky leeches from each other.
However, there’s a bit of a catch. The update doesn’t implement cross-play among different systems, such as between PC and VR platforms or between Quest and PSVR 2. As explained in a recent social media post by the developers, the team concentrated their efforts on crafting the multiplayer aspect and implied that undertaking cross-play integration could have delayed the release even further. They assured the community that the potential for cross-play remains on their radar for future updates.
Incuvo’s CEO, Andrzej Wychowaniec, expressed his excitement about bringing co-op gameplay to both Meta Quest and PSVR2. He acknowledged the community’s eagerness for this feature and emphasized the importance of meeting player expectations for an engaging co-op survival adventure.
On the other hand, Incuvo has not yet confirmed if this exciting new multiplayer dimension will be extended to the SteamVR version of the game. Given that the PC VR iteration hasn’t seen much activity since late 2022, when the studio shifted focus towards rolling out the ‘Spirits of Amazonia Part I’ expansion for Quest and PSVR 2, the prospect seems uncertain. For now, players on these newer platforms can look forward to diving into the co-op experience just in time for the holiday season.
