At CES 2025, NVIDIA made an exciting announcement that it’s broadening the reach of its cloud gaming platform, GeForce NOW. Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3 and 3S, along with Pico headsets, are next in line to receive this support.
While this news might thrill many, it’s worth noting that the update doesn’t introduce VR cloud gaming just yet. Instead, it offers access to standard games across a variety of platforms including Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and portable gaming devices.
According to NVIDIA, users of Vision Pro, Quest 3/S, and Pico headsets will soon have the capability to stream these games through GeForce NOW using browsers. This will all kick off when the version 2.0.70 update is rolled out later this month.
Once available, NVIDIA promises an enhanced gaming experience complete with advanced technologies like ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS. Players can expect to enjoy games that support gamepad controls on impressively large virtual screens.
It’s particularly interesting that NVIDIA offers a tiered access model for its cloud gaming service. There’s a free, albeit limited, option, and for those seeking more, tiered daily passes or monthly subscriptions provide a richer, high-quality gaming experience. Their library already boasts more than 2,000 titles.
Notably, this isn’t the debut of cloud gaming for stand-alone VR devices. Back in 2022, Pluto VR introduced a cloud gaming service for Quest headsets called PlutoSphere. However, this service was short-lived and was removed in early 2024 due to Meta’s broader crackdown on unsanctioned cloud streaming services.
This scenario cleared the path for Microsoft, who later in 2023, was permitted to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming and its Game Pass library to Quest users, marking a significant development in the VR gaming community.
