Sony Unveils PSVR 2’s Top Downloaded Games for 2024

Sony recently unveiled its annual list of top downloads across their PlayStation platforms for 2024. There hasn’t been much change from PSVR 2’s inaugural year, a trend that doesn’t come as a surprise.

Approaching the two-year mark, PSVR 2 has faced criticism for its perceived lack of attention since its launch in February 2023. Critics point to a shortage of exclusive games and robust developer support, in contrast to the original PSVR. However, dedicated users of the headset would likely beg to differ.

PSVR 2 definitely has its strengths. As a powerful headset, it enables developers to deliver enhanced render resolutions and impressive visual fidelity that surpass even devices like Meta’s Quest 3. Additionally, PSVR 2 users can dive into PC VR games thanks to a wired adapter released by Sony last June. Yet, the true measure of success lies in the top downloaded games on the PlayStation Store. The results speak for themselves.

In both North America and Europe, the ever-popular Beat Saber (2018) secured the top spot. This is no knock on the platform; it remains a must-play for new VR users.

Among the games launched in 2024 that appeared on the list are Vertigo Games’ Metro Awakening, which entered the scene in November, thus not having ample time to climb higher. Urban Wolf Games’ Legendary Tales, after a lengthy Early Access period on Steam, released its full version in February 2024 across major VR platforms.

To be fair, it’s worth noting Vertigo Games’ Arizona Sunshine 2 (2023) debuted in December 2023, just a short window before the year ended, which limited its chance of charting higher the previous year.

Familiar titles are in abundance. Looking back at PSVR 2 downloads for 2023–its first almost full year post-launch–we see some recurrent names:
