Gaijin Entertainment, known for its work on War Thunder, has exciting news for aviation enthusiasts this year. The studio is gearing up to release its latest aerial VR combat marvel, Aces of Thunder, for both PSVR 2 and PC VR headsets.
Originally slated to soar onto our screens in late 2024, Aces of Thunder was officially unveiled back in 2023. It’s primed to deliver a thrilling lineup of some of the most famed aircraft from the World Wars, making its way to SteamVR and PSVR 2.
The developers have already teased a remarkable lineup of WWII planes. Now, they’ve added a fascinating twist by including a selection of iconic WWI-era aircraft.
According to Gaijin, players can expect to pilot legendary fighters like the Fokker Dr.I, piloted by the infamous Red Baron, and the SPAD S.XIII, a favorite of René Fonck, the Allies’ top ace. With meticulously detailed cockpits, weaponry true to history, and realistic flight dynamics, players are in for an engaging and immersive experience.
The roster doesn’t stop there. From WWII, you’ll find the renowned P-51 Mustang and P-63 Kingcobra from America, Germany’s formidable Bf 109 and Fw 190 fighters, the fierce Soviet IL-2 attack plane, Britain’s iconic Spitfire, and Japan’s nimble A6M3 Zero.
As for when we can take to the skies, Gaijin has shared with Road to VR that the game is now expected in 2025. Until then, eager pilots can add Aces of Thunder to their wishlist on both Steam and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
While pricing remains under wraps for now, we’ll be keeping a close watch for any updates on this promising addition to the VR gaming world.
