Mark Rabkin, who has served as Meta’s Vice President of XR, is stepping down after dedicating over four years to pioneering the company’s XR initiatives. Rabkin mentioned that personal family health matters have prompted his decision to move on.
In a recent announcement, Rabkin revealed that he plans to leave Meta by March. He assured developers and enthusiasts of XR, “I’ll be leaving you in capable hands. More updates will follow,” hinting that we’ll soon find out who his successor will be.
During his tenure as Meta’s VP of XR, Rabkin has been instrumental in several key projects. These include the release of Quest 3 and Quest 3S, as well as significant updates like the transformation of Quest’s software to Horizon OS and the merging of App Lab into the Horizon OS store. Under his leadership, the company made notable strides in mixed reality and spatial computing technologies with its headsets.
While Rabkin’s role as VP of XR spanned around four years, his journey with Meta began much earlier, totaling 18 years. He kicked off his career at Meta in 2007 as an energetic, confident young backend infrastructure C++ engineer, fresh out of his twenties.
His LinkedIn profile traces his impressive rise within Meta, highlighting his advancement to VP roles over the subsequent decade. Rabkin transitioned to the XR division in 2019, initially serving as VP of XR Experiences before eventually assuming the overall VP of XR position.
