Recently, there’s been a wave of reports regarding GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs that seem to be completely nonfunctional, prompting NVIDIA to look into the situation.
NVIDIA has now started an investigation following numerous complaints about malfunctioning RTX 5090 and its Chinese counterpart, RTX 5090D. Over the past few days, these reports have multiplied, with users frantically attempting various troubleshooting methods. Sadly, most have found little to no success in solving the persistent issue.
Though a handful of users have stumbled upon unconventional fixes, a significant number still face difficulties with their GPUs. This widespread problem has now caught the attention of NVIDIA, who has acknowledged the issue. According to PC Gamer, NVIDIA commented:
“We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series.”
That’s all we have for now—no detailed information has been released, but it is clear NVIDIA is on the case. For those unfamiliar with the predicament, our previous article explored how several RTX 5090 and RTX 5090D units failed to display anything on monitors post driver update, displaying only black screens.
This issue has been consistently reported, emerging soon after users installed NVIDIA’s latest driver updates. Troubleshooting has proven to be quite the puzzle, and even reverting to the earlier driver version hasn’t helped—oftentimes, the GPU still wouldn’t be detected by the computer. Some have even reset their BIOS to no avail, with the GPU still not appearing in either the Device Manager or BIOS.
While the exact cause remains uncertain, speculation points to possibly an architectural or driver compatibility issue rather than a hardware defect. We’re now waiting on NVIDIA to delve deeper, as no one has yet found a comprehensive fix for the GPU bricking problem affecting the RTX 5090 and 5090D series.
