The creative minds behind Skyblivion, the ambitious project revamping The Elder Scrolls IV with Skyrim’s engine, have shared an exciting update: they’ve completed the landscaping for every region of Cyrodiil on their map.
Although there’s still work to be done before the mod reaches its expected 2025 release, this accomplishment marks a significant milestone on their journey.
In a recent tweet, the team shared, “With the Niben Basin and Valley complete, all of Cyrodiil’s landscape has had at least a first pass.” With this, they plan to shift their focus to refining these areas to elevate them to higher standards.
This news comes after Skyblivion’s team mentioned last month that they were putting the final touches on the map, with only the Nibenay region located on Cyrodiil’s eastern boundary left to complete. Consider that box checked now.
However, the roadmap ahead involves a good deal more than just mapping. The modders have indicated that tasks like navmeshing—crucial for NPC movement—are still on the to-do list. Without this, they risk NPCs getting hopelessly snarled in the environment rather than occasionally tripping over the odd tree root, as we sometimes see in vanilla Skyrim or Oblivion.
Furthermore, the team disclosed that they are still knee-deep in crafting various interiors. They’re concentrating their efforts on quest locations, which demand more time and creativity compared to standard interiors. As of last month, six quests hadn’t even commenced development.
