And just like that, my streak of not shelling out actual money for Nintendo Switch Online has come to an end.
You see, one of the more beloved features of the Switch is coming to a close just after the re-release of Xenoblade Chronicles X. There’s another one that won’t be compatible with the anticipated Switch 2 either.
Late tonight, Nintendo dropped the news that the My Nintendo Gold program is wrapping up. Starting March 25, at precisely 12:59 a.m. ET, this program—which used to gift you 1% in eShop credits for physical first-party titles within their debut year, and a 5% return on all eShop purchases—will be no more. The lone exception? Physical games launched from March 25, 2024, right up until the program’s official end, inclusively from Endless Ocean: Luminous to Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. Sadly, Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will not make the cut.
Moreover, there’s an update on the support page regarding Switch Online Vouchers, confirming that they won’t be usable with Switch 2 games. Subscribers who invested in pairs of these vouchers for $99 US or equivalent will still be able to snag first-party titles on the original Switch. This offer continues to cover future releases like Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
