Today, Sony made an exciting announcement for gamers: a permanent price drop for the PSVR 2 is set for next month. The virtual reality headset compatible with both PS5 and PC will soon be available for just $400.
When Sony first rolled out the PSVR 2 almost two years back, it came with a hefty price tag of $550. Interestingly, despite skipping any significant mentions during its two-year anniversary or even the recent State of Play event, Sony has now slashed the price to $400 / €450 / £400 / ¥66,980, effective this March.
What’s more intriguing is that this new $400 price point applies to both the standard PSVR bundle, which includes the headset alongside two Sense controllers and headphones, and the Horizon Call of the Mountain package. The latter originally launched in February 2023 at a cost of $600.
Sure, PSVR 2 had its share of promotional discounts in the past, even dropping the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle to a mere $350 back in November 2024. This indicates that even sweeter savings could be in store for the future.
Along with the price cut, Sony spotlighted a collection of content for PSVR 2, featuring titles like Skydance’s Behemoth, Metro Awakening VR, and Alien: Rogue Incursion. Plus, some highly anticipated games are on the horizon, such as Aces of Thunder, Dreams of Another, Hitman World of Assassination, and The Midnight Walk. That said, the company hasn’t fully embraced the PSVR 2 platform just yet.
When it comes to first-party titles, they’ve been limited for PSVR 2. Notable releases include Horizon Call of the Mountain and VR modes for hits like Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 Remake. This is a stark contrast to the lineup for the original PSVR released in 2016, which featured popular titles like Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Blood & Truth, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, as well as various VR experiences and modes for Gran Turismo Sport and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
Sony, however, has extended a lifeline to PSVR 2 users by introducing the $60 PC Adapter last August, allowing players to experience SteamVR games like Half-Life: Alyx and Fallout 4 VR on their PCs. It’s a step towards gradually easing the PSVR 2 away from its dependence on the PS5 ecosystem.
Looking ahead, any future discounts could mirror the remarkable sales figures seen over the recent holiday season. This, in turn, might entice more PS5 owners to dive into not only the existing library of stellar games but also a steady influx of third-party offerings, which shows no signs of halting. Another promotion similar to the 42% markdown during Black Friday could shrink the PSVR 2’s cost to just $232, making it a fantastic bargain.
On a final note, it’s important to mention that as of February 27th, 2025, there was a correction: the Euro price is now reported at €450, down from the initially stated €550.
