Huawei is gearing up to make waves in the tech world once more, this time with its first commercial AI laptop, which is expected to debut by April. This ambitious endeavor will likely showcase the company’s prowess with in-house components, particularly featuring the Kunpeng-920 processor.
The Chinese tech titan has set its sights on a bigger slice of the domestic tech pie, leveraging its expertise from mobile and AI sectors to break into the commercial PC market. According to insider information from @tphuang, Huawei’s upcoming laptop will integrate its own components, which not only simplifies their supply chain but also creates fresh market opportunities.
In a recent tweet, tphuang noted that Huawei’s domestic commercial PC is on the horizon. It will harness the power of the 7nm Kunpeng-920 CPU running at 2.6GHz, combined with entirely homegrown components, including the Unisoc CT100 PMIC—an innovation replacing traditional clock generators. The laptop is anticipated to operate on HarmonyOS, tailored for PCs, and will support Huawei’s localized development tools. Additionally, it will feature DeepSeek for executing edge AI tasks, adding an edge of excitement as it looks toward an April launch.
While the specifics of the device remain somewhat under wraps, Huawei Central reports suggest this laptop will be part of the “Qingyun” series, catering to enterprises with an array of products including laptops, desktops, and more. The integration of DeepSeek into this device mirrors familiar AI advancements seen in devices like Microsoft’s Copilot+. For now, Huawei’s primary focus seems to be the domestic market, adding to the mounting anticipation.
An interesting aspect of Huawei’s project is its commitment to using entirely Chinese-manufactured components, with the Kunpeng-920 CPU serving as the device’s core. This processor, built on the ARMv8 architecture, comes in various configurations, boasting up to 64 cores. Though primarily designed for servers, Huawei has developed models for broader use, featuring 4, 8, or 16 cores.
The laptop is expected to run a version of HarmonyOS crafted for PCs, with DeepSeek handling AI requests at the edge. While we await performance details, Huawei’s shift towards in-house production marks a promising direction for the company. For now, the April release is anticipated, but we’ll have to wait and see when an official announcement is made.
