Indie XR developer The Binary Mill has exciting news for PSVR 2 enthusiasts: their space exploration and mining adventure, “Into Black” (2024), is departing from its Quest exclusivity and will soon be available on the PSVR 2 platform. This move promises to bring more adventurers into its galactic fold.
Originally released on the Quest platform in October, this game invites players, either solo or in teams of up to four, to hunt for resources, enhance their gear, and fix their starship. As you journey through more than 20 levels with distinct biomes, you’ll face a variety of adversaries while ensuring you gather everything you need to escape the perilous alien planet.
The PSVR 2 edition also introduces the ‘Singularity’ mode—where Player versus Player versus Environment (PvPvE) takes center stage. This competitive online mode pits you against up to 11 other players. As described by the studio, “Form temporary alliances as you navigate an ever-diminishing labyrinth. Seize as much loot as possible, but beware—greed might just be your downfall.”
Intriguingly, “Into Black” is getting a major upgrade for PSVR 2. Expect to see refined environments, dazzling lighting effects—with dynamic lighting, shadows, and HDR, and eye-tracked foveated rendering. The enhanced haptics, thanks to PS Sense’s adaptive triggers and PSVR 2’s rumble feature, add an extra layer of immersion.
While it’s uncertain if cross-play will be available at launch with the Quest, the studio clarified to Road to VR that it would not be part of the initial release.
Additionally, fans eagerly await a trailer highlighting the full suite of PSVR 2 enhancements. In the meantime, some teaser images and GIFs have been shared to give a glimpse of what’s to come.
Although a specific release date hasn’t been unveiled, The Binary Mill hints at an imminent launch. PlayStation players can already add “Into Black” to their wishlist, gearing up for its arrival on PSVR 2.
