Let’s break down this highly anticipated feature. On select stages, players can freely switch between a foreground and a background lane. This strategic flexibility not only lets you navigate battles in innovative ways but also opens up a whole new dimension of mind games. Depending on your positioning in either lane, you and your opponent can execute different tactics to outmaneuver each other and snag a well-earned victory.

A Peek Inside the Battle Mechanics

Want to try out this system? Start with the Dream Amusement Park “Morning” stage—it’s currently the only stage enabling Two-Lane Battles, but keep your eyes peeled for more stages coming soon. You and your challenger begin in the same lane, but you can switch by pressing X and RB together. Amp up your attack with an added twist and use A and RB for a special leap-lane switch move.

Drift into different lanes with these moves: a grounded attack with X to shunt you beside your opponent again, or take to the air with A or B for jumping assaults. Cunningly, Y can yank your foe to your lane using a special pullback attack. As you refine these maneuvers, even more dynamic combos await as you leap between lanes for cross-lane synergy!
