Schell Games and Innersloth have some exciting news for the gaming community: Among Us VR, released in 2022, will soon support flatscreen play, enabling crossplay between VR and PC users.
But that’s not all; they’re revamping the game’s identity by renaming it Among Us 3D, a move that introduces PC players to a brand-new first-person gameplay experience.
Schell Games assures us that Among Us 3D is designed for cross-platform interaction, meaning that PC users can seamlessly join VR lobbies. This feature will be compatible with all major platforms, such as Quest, SteamVR, PSVR 2, and Pico headsets.
It’s important to note that Among Us 3D won’t be compatible with the original 2D version of Among Us released in 2018, which has remained distinct since Among Us VR debuted in November 2022.
Ryan Hall, the Project Director at Schell Games, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion: “Among Us 3D is going to let us reach a far broader audience with its first-person view. Merging the VR and PC worlds means you and your friends have even more opportunities to engage in thrilling betrayals—think of the mischief an entire crew can get up to!”
Over the coming months, this rebranding effort will unfold, including updates across store pages, websites, and within the game itself.
Additionally, Among Us 3D is set to introduce ‘Stardust’, a new in-game currency. This will let players purchase cosmetic items, and according to the developers, it will help fuel the game’s growth.
While no specific launch date has been given, fans might not have to wait long. Among Us 3D will make its debut in the Steam Next Fest, providing gamers with an exclusive preview before it officially goes live.
