As you journey through the game, you’ll come across various cultures, each with its own distinctive vibe and story. It’s their deeply held beliefs, especially about their gods, that breathe life into this world. Take the Aedyrans, for example. They are a society that holds concepts of rightful rule, leadership, and order in high regard. Now, picture them navigating the vast, untamed frontier of Eora. How do they fit in with the locals? It might be something as simple as tweaking their attire or adapting their living style to better mesh with this “Wild West” setting. Here, flexibility is key, as sticking rigidly to their old ways might not cut it in the rugged Living Lands.
Patel expands on this idea, saying, “Someone who primarily reveres [the goddess] Woedica leans heavily on her teachings of law, order, justice, and rightful governance above all else. Conversely, if you are a follower of Abydon, the Smith, while you acknowledge other deities, it’s his values of industry, hard work, and dedication that you hold in the highest regard. This approach helps us define these factions and groups with distinct ideals that are readily identifiable, making it clear to players what they’re all about.”
You can see these cultural nuances beautifully reflected in the architecture and costume designs, blending seamlessly to craft an immersive environment. Lead Environment Artist Dennis Presnell comments, “We’re depicting this world as a vibrant, living entity. It feels authentic both in the game and during development. Our process is highly iterative; as new assets and cunning ideas are pitched by team members, we build upon each other’s contributions. This collaborative effort results in a world brimming with variety, yet also remaining cohesive and genuine.”
