Baldur’s Gate 3 has certainly made waves as one of the standout games of 2023. Garnering numerous Game of the Year accolades, it has left a significant mark on the gaming community. Yet, despite its successes, fans have been clamoring for some additional features that have been noticeably absent. Fortunately, these are set to arrive with Patch 8, finally addressing some of these long-standing requests.
Exploring the New Features in Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8
Anticipation is building for Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch 8, the next big update for this cherished RPG, which is slated to drop early next year. Gamers can look forward to an array of exciting additions including cross-play, a photo mode, and a whopping 12 new subclasses. This update isn’t leaving anyone out—it will land on all platforms, such as the PS5.
In the latest Baldur’s Gate 3 Community Update, cross-play was a major highlight. This much-anticipated feature will enable gamers to connect and play with friends across different platforms, be it PS5, PC, Xbox, or Mac. To dive into cross-play, players will need to ensure this feature is enabled and will also require a Larian Network account.
In addition, photo mode is making its debut, which is sure to be a hit among players eager to capture memories of their epic quests. The mode will offer a host of camera settings allowing players to spotlight particular characters, tweak lens and scene settings, and utilize post-processing effects. You’ll also have access to frames and stickers to jazz up your photos during gameplay or cutscenes. It’s worth noting, though, that during cinematics, adjustments to camera and lens settings won’t be possible.
As the cherry on top, Patch 8 will unleash 12 new subclasses, each bringing unique abilities, animations, visual effects, summons, and cantrips to the table. Here’s a peek at the upcoming additions:
- Bard: College of Glamour
- Barbarian: Path of Giants
- Cleric: Death Domain
- Druid: Circle of Stars
- Paladin: Oath of the Crown
- Fighter: Arcane Archer
- Monk: Drunken Master
- Ranger: Swarmkeeper
- Rogue: Swashbuckler
- Sorcerer: Shadow Magic
- Warlock: Hexblade
- Wizard: Bladesinging
Larian Studios has laid out plans for a thorough stress test for Patch 8. If you’re a PS5 player keen on participating, you’ll have the opportunity to register before testing kicks off in January. More details on how to get involved will be shared in their upcoming Community Update.
