ILM and Lucasfilm have just given fans a sneak peek at their forthcoming Quest 3 game, Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset. This new title strives to blend virtual experiences with mixed reality gameplay for an immersive adventure.
In a collaboration with Meta, the studios unveiled this exciting first look during ‘Star Wars Celebration 2025,’ which unfolded from April 18 to April 20 in Tokyo, Japan. Alongside the demonstration, they treated fans to a thrilling teaser that showcased some key gameplay elements.
Though it’s still a work in progress, Star Wars: Beyond Victory is set around the events of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). The developers have hinted that the game’s release on Quest 3 and 3S will feature three unique modes to explore and enjoy.
One of the standout features will be a VR/MR mix in the story mode, following the race-fueled adventures of podracer ‘Volo.’ Another is an arcade mode, allowing players to engage in mini-podracing through a mixed reality holotable. Moreover, a ‘playset’ mode invites players to transform their physical environment by adding virtual action figures and vehicles that they can unlock.
“We’re calling this a Playset because it’s more than just a game; it’s an entirely new way to immerse yourself in the Star Wars universe and the worlds crafted by ILM,” explains Alyssa Finley, the Executive Producer of the game. “This mixed reality journey combines the physical and digital realms in a novel way, and we’re thrilled to offer our passionate Star Wars community a special preview.”
If you’re making your way to the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo this Friday, you’ll have a chance to get hands-on with Star Wars: Beyond Victory at the ILM and Meta Quest booth stationed in Hall 4, Booth #20-5. There, you’ll also have the opportunity to revisit interactive experiences with their previous XR titles like Vader Immortal and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.
While there’s no official release date just yet, ILM is known for slowly building anticipation with tidbits and updates about their VR projects in the Star Wars universe. So, keep your eyes peeled for more information as we get closer to the game’s launch.
