Destiny 2’s Episode Heresy is proving to be a hit among players, thanks to its engaging activities, impressive weaponry, and a captivating storyline centered around Eris Morn’s supposed demise and its fallout. Fans found the roguelike elements in Destiny 2’s The Nether quite intriguing, even if the health-as-currency mechanic wasn’t everyone’s favorite. Bungie can certainly refine this feature for future projects. On the other hand, the new Court of Blades offers a refreshing change from The Nether, prompting players to take on robust enemies consecutively while earning new buffs. However, it also highlights a persistent issue with loot in the game.
Later this year, Destiny 2’s Frontiers aims to revamp several aspects of the game, from overhauling its armor system to adopting a fresh content release approach, moving away from annual expansions. However, the loot problem remains glaringly urgent. Weapon crafting is seemingly becoming a relic of the past, yet the game’s inability to adequately reward players’ time is a significant concern, exemplified by the Court of Blades.
The Court of Blades, conceptually exciting, involves defeating a series of bosses with escalating challenge, promising better loot for defeating them all on Expert mode, which is tougher and more time-consuming than the Normal mode. While theoretically rewarding, the elusive “shiny” Heresy season weapons, boasting extra Origin Traits and Adept mods, particularly when not craftable, are not guaranteed in the Expert mode, even after defeating all bosses—much to the players’ frustration.
This lack of guaranteed rewards highlights a long-standing issue within Destiny 2, where players’ substantial efforts often yield insufficient returns. When The Nether didn’t guarantee Adept weapons on Expert completion, players hoped that would change with newer activities. Unfortunately, that’s not the case with the Court of Blades, offering minimal advantage for the extra effort on Expert difficulty.
Getting one’s hands on Adept God Rolls in the Court of Blades is no easy task. Not only does it rely heavily on luck for Adept weapons to drop, but players also need the right perks on these weapons. Given the time spent on a few Expert runs, players could achieve multiple Normal completions. Although Adept weapons are certainly desirable, especially if they can be enhanced, the current reward system in Expert mode is not justifiable. Destiny 2’s Frontiers should address this issue promptly to enhance the player experience.
