Rebecka Coutaz, the general manager at DICE, has been promoted to also oversee the British game development studio Criterion. According to a report by GI.biz, she’s stepping into her new position as the VP and GM of Battlefield Studios Europe. Since 2016’s launch of Battlefield 1, Criterion has played a crucial role in EA’s blockbuster shooter series, and they’ll keep contributing alongside the American teams at Motive and Ripple Effect.
Coutaz made her move to DICE in November 2021, taking on the role of VP and GM. Before this, she was leading Ubisoft’s Annecy studio. Reflecting on her new responsibilities, Coutaz shared, "Since joining DICE in 2021, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with a wildly talented and diverse group. Being entrusted with this expanded leadership position is truly an honor. I’m eager to lead these two iconic studios, both of which boast a vibrant and storied past."
Emphasizing the significance of her teams, she continued, "DICE and Criterion stand as trailblazers in the European gaming scene. My goal is to empower our teams to push the envelope and introduce innovations that enhance our players’ experiences. By harnessing the creativity that each studio brings to the table, we’ll advance and broaden the Battlefield franchise on a global scale, alongside our partners at Motive and Ripple Effect. We are at an incredibly exciting juncture, ready to shape Battlefield’s future, and I’m excited to invite dedicated individuals to join us on this journey."
