Elon Musk, famously recognized as the wealthiest individual globally and now on good terms with President-elect Trump, is making moves to venture into the video game realm by launching a new studio.
Musk outlined his somewhat nebulous plans on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, which he acquired in October 2022. Since the US presidential election, the platform has been witnessing a decline in users. On the morning of November 27, Musk expressed his concern about the current state of the gaming industry: “Too many game studios […] are owned by massive corporations,” he noted before revealing that his own large corporation, xAI, is initiating an AI-focused game studio designed to “make games great again.”
xAI presents itself as a company dedicated to developing artificial intelligence with the aim of accelerating human scientific discovery, abiding by a mission to further our collective knowledge of the universe. The company has gained recognition for Grok, an AI bot similar to ChatGPT, which is available to subscribers of X Premium. Musk established xAI in March 2023.
Despite changes in the social media landscape, those of us invested in the gaming industry will likely still want to keep tabs on Musk. His ongoing association with President-elect Donald Trump, who has a known history of supporting the business interests of his associates and opposing their adversaries, indicates that Musk’s ventures could carry significant implications.
