VR enthusiast and modder Holydh has unveiled an exciting new creation— the GTA: San Andreas Definitive Edition – 6DoF UEVR Plugin. This mod introduces VR support for the game’s Steam version, bringing a fresh experience to the classic title.
Last year, fans of Grand Theft Auto were eagerly anticipating the VR port of San Andreas for Quest, a project headed by Meta and Rockstar. Unfortunately, it was put on hold indefinitely. Left with no other choice, the ever-creative modding community decided to take matters into their own hands. If anyone wanted to experience Big Smoke’s iconic fast-food order in VR, it was up to them. This delay marked another bump in the road for Rockstar during a challenging period filled with leaks, staff cuts, and the less-than-stellar launch of the remastered “Definitive Editions” of their beloved games, including San Andreas.
Holydh’s work isn’t just a quick switch to VR; it’s a complete transformation. The mod offers a full first-person view, 6DOF (six degrees of freedom) motion controls, and refined camera handling during both gameplay and cutscenes. This is all made possible thanks to an advanced version of modder Praydog’s UEVR injector, known for bringing VR to a wide range of games built on Unreal Engine 4.8 or later.
You can check out the mod in action for yourself—it’s quite the sight.
For those eager to give this mod a try, head over to its Nexus Mods page for all the details. However, it’s crucial to note that this mod only works with the Steam version of San Andreas Definitive Edition. Versions from the Epic Games Store and Rockstar Launcher won’t be compatible.
Rockstar is known for protecting its intellectual property, as seen with the legal issues surrounding the Luke Ross VR mod for Grand Theft Auto 5. However, Holydh is optimistic that this latest mod won’t face similar hurdles. It’s freely available and doesn’t use Rockstar-owned files, unlike the Luke Ross mod, which initially required payment for access.
