I’ve always found clowns a bit unsettling, so any game that lets me take one out with a well-aimed shot is definitely on my radar. Enter Twisted Tower, a wild ride through a theme park from hell that takes more than a few cues from Bioshock. On each level, you’ll encounter a variety of bizarre enemies, but don’t worry—you’re equipped with equally quirky weapons, like a gumball machine gun. If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, give the latest demo on Steam a try.
The adventure kicks off when the main character wins a mysterious invite to this run-down carnival. Once inside, it’s up to him to battle through legions of sinister mascots, each armed to the teeth, using an arsenal that only gets stranger as you progress. The setting feels like a surreal mashup of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory and a dystopian amusement park straight from the mind of Andrew Ryan—both whimsical and unsettling, left to decay soon after the grand opening.
The entire affair is masterminded by Mr. Twister, a crafty toymaker who’s brought these menacing figures to life. It’s all for show, with your thrilling journey broadcast over the airwaves. There are several paths to take, each madness-inducing in its challenges, adding a layer of unpredictability—at least, until you find just the right weaponry to level the playing field.
Twisted Tower is a blast from the get-go. There’s something joyfully chaotic about watching confetti burst from defeated foes—these are toys, after all—and hearing the quirky, animal-like noises some of them make only adds to the carnival vibe. It echoes Bioshock in style but opts for a less serious, more playful atmosphere akin to American McGee’s Alice.
Developed by Thomas Brush of Atmos Games, Twisted Tower marks his third release, following the dark titles Neversong and Pinstripe. This game is a notable leap in scale and ambition, transitioning from 2D to 3D and stepping into the realms of a first-person shooter filled with unexpected twists around every corner.
First impressions are promising, and you can dive in right away to see what all the buzz is about. Starting today, the Twisted Tower demo is live on Steam. Hop onto the Steam page for more info.
