The Video Game History Foundation has taken a significant step forward by launching their digital library of research materials, available now in early access. Initially, this impressive library houses over 1,500 out-of-print video game magazines, all text-searchable. Among these are rare finds that have previously been inaccessible to the general public. Additionally, the library boasts never-before-seen materials related to game development, artwork, press kits, and promotional content.
Curious gamers and researchers can explore this trove by visiting Library.GameHistory.Org.
A couple of standout features of the launch are the Mark Flitman collection and the Cyan collection. We at NWR had the privilege of accessing a selection from the Mark Flitman collection, which greatly enriched our 30th anniversary Star Fox documentary and our in-depth look at Dylan Cuthbert’s Eclipse demo. Both projects were developed in partnership with the Video Game History Foundation. Meanwhile, the Cyan collection offers over 100 hours of footage from the making of the Myst series, providing an unprecedented look behind the scenes.
If you’re interested in diving deeper into what the library has to offer and what the Video Game History Foundation has planned for the future, you’ll find more information readily available.
