Phasmophobia, the hugely popular cooperative ghost hunting game, has been creating quite a buzz on Twitch since at least 2020. As of a recent announcement by the developers, Kinetic Games, sales figures have surpassed 22 million copies. Looking ahead to 2025, the development team has laid out an ambitious roadmap that includes a fresh new look for its typically plain player character models. Here’s a rundown of the exciting updates and enhancements we can look forward to later this year, as detailed in the latest news release.
The first big update this year, known as the Chronicle update, was previously introduced in a developer blog post. Kinetic Games explained that it will change the way players collect evidence. Elements like ghostly temperature drops and unsettling noises will now be archived for future reference. To accommodate this, the Photos tab is being replaced with a new Media tab. This feature should come in particularly handy when hauntings get wild and your teammates are busy screaming, debating, or otherwise in a panic.
There’s also word from the developers about adding more depth to evidence collection. The inaugural capture of any media type will be classified as Unique, offering substantial rewards upon completing a contract. On the flip side, capturing duplicate media will yield significantly fewer rewards, urging players to diversify their toolkit and compile a comprehensive range of evidence.
Following the Chronicle update, there’s the Player Character Overhaul slated to arrive. At the moment, players have limited avatar options that lack distinctive personality. The roadmap hints at customization possibilities, including swapping outfits between contracts, with a sneak peek showing characters in various shirts. This shift would certainly add much-needed diversity to the current bland wardrobe of plain button-downs and simple attire.
Further on in the year, Kinetic Games is also planning to introduce a fresh new map. They’ve described it as being “similar in size to the houses” already featured in the game. Existing maps won’t be left out either; substantial updates are planned for the Bleasdale and Grafton Farmhouses. These updates will overhaul the layouts and introduce new rooms for spirits to occupy. Additionally, there are hints of festive updates for Easter and Halloween, and even a teaser for 2026 features, with something mysteriously titled “Horror 2.0” that has definitely caught my attention.
