Exciting times are here for PlayStation enthusiasts and those who love vibrant, imaginative gaming experiences. Astro Bot nabbed the highly coveted Game of the Year accolade at the BAFTA awards last night, triumphing over other remarkable contenders such as Helldivers 2 and Balatro.
But that’s not all—Astro Bot didn’t just stop at the top prize. It also scored wins in several other categories like Audio Achievement, Animation, Family, and Game Design. This success follows its Game of the Year victory at The Game Awards the previous year, where Astro Bot once again outshined a host of major titles in a fiercely competitive 2024.
During the awards ceremony, the team accepted the honor together, with Nicolas Doucet taking the stage for a brief but heartfelt speech. He paid tribute to the dedicated team back in Japan: “A huge thank you to everyone in Japan. They poured endless love and care into this game, day in and day out. Winning was never the main goal for us; our focus was simply on creating something joyful for people.”
Doucet continued to extend gratitude to various key figures, including the game’s composer, everyone at PlayStation, and partner games featured in Astro Bot. He also expressed appreciation for the BAFTA academy, the families of the developers, and the pioneering game creators who paved the way.
