I’m currently diving into the exciting world of Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island to bring you a detailed review. To give you a sneak peek into its creation, I had a chat with Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, the co-founder of Polygon Treehouse. Let’s delve into what they had to share!
PS4Blog: Hi there! It’s great to have you joining us again. How have things been going?
Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou: Thanks for having me! Things have certainly been hectic. Since we launched our last indie title, Röki, it’s been fascinating to shift focus from Scandinavian folklore to Greek mythology for Mythwrecked. Imagining the Greek gods in a contemporary setting has been an intriguing journey!
PS4B: Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island is set to debut on the Nintendo Switch this December 5th. What can you tell us about what players should expect from this adventure?
Alex: We’re describing Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island as an ‘explore-o-story’ game. You step into the shoes of Alex, a weary backpacker seeking a getaway, whose plans are upended by a strange storm, leaving them stranded on an ancient island. Your task is to forge friendships with the Greek gods, restore their lost memories, and ultimately, figure out how to return home.
PS4B: How long have you been developing this project? Also, how has the game evolved from the initial idea to what players will soon experience?
Alex: The concept began to take shape about three years ago. The core ideas, such as radar treasure hunting and memory flashbacks, have remained largely unchanged from those early brainstorming sessions. However, the ‘Story Sandbox’—our interactive dialogue with the gods—has undergone several refinements. I’m thrilled with its final iteration, as it truly envelops players in a dynamic, unfolding narrative.
PS4B: In the past, we saw a physical release for Röki. Are there similar plans for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island?
Alex: I’m quite passionate about physical game editions, and having one for Röki was a highlight. As for Mythwrecked, there’s no specific update at the moment, but it’s definitely something I hope we can pursue eventually.
PS4B: Before we wrap things up, is there anything else you’d like our readers to know?
Alex: Absolutely! Thanks for taking the time to read about our game. If you’re a fan of cozy narratives, mythology, or a blend of adventure and mystery, we really believe Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island will be a memorable indie adventure for you. Feel free to check it out!
