PlayStation’s chief, Hideaki Nishino, recently expressed that the PS Portal has been a significant success for Sony. It’s more than just a new product; it’s a testament to Sony’s efforts in finding innovative ways to deliver PlayStation experiences to gamers. In an interview with the BBC, Nishino hinted that the introduction of cloud streaming capabilities on the PS Portal is merely the beginning.
The buzz around PS Portal’s achievement has sparked conversations about Sony potentially developing another portable gaming device. When the BBC pressed Nishino and the company’s co-CEO, Hermen Hulst, on this subject, they chose their words carefully. They avoided confirming any new projects but did acknowledge shifts in gaming habits—changes they attribute to PS Portal’s launch and its positive reception.
Nishino elaborated, saying, “We’ve just rolled out a beta program for direct cloud streaming to the device. Our mission is to continually explore diverse avenues for how gamers can interact with their favorite titles.”
There’s been some chatter lately suggesting Sony might be dabbling with a new portable device after taking a break from the handheld market. Some prototype versions might already exist, fueled by the success of the PS Portal. With Microsoft openly planning to introduce its own Xbox handheld, it’s likely that Sony doesn’t want to miss out on having a competitive presence as the gaming industry evolves, especially with the PS6 horizon in sight.
