This year, indie publisher Reforged Studios has added another feather in its cap by acquiring its third developer, Yellow Lab Games. While the exact financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed, it has been reported that Yellow Lab Games will continue to operate independently, according to GI.biz. They’re currently working on a roguelite RPG titled Metavoidal, which is slated for a Steam release in the first quarter of 2025.
This acquisition follows Reforged’s earlier purchases of Ground Shatter and Extra Mile Studios back in August, demonstrating their active expansion strategy.
Reforged CEO and founder, Peter Van Der Watt, shared his thoughts, saying, “Having grown up in South Africa, I’ve always recognized the immense talent within the game development community here. Yellow Lab Games caught my attention some time ago, especially after witnessing the buzz around Metavoidal, which marks their initial venture into PC and console gaming.”
He added, “Since moving to Scotland in 2011 to start my first game studio, I’ve been a keen advocate for South African game development on the global stage. The entire Reforged board now shares my enthusiasm for the potential this region holds. So when the chance came to bring David Hecker and his team at Yellow Lab into our fold, we jumped at it. We are thrilled to welcome South Africa’s finest game developers to Reforged and believe this is just the start of a broader investment in Africa’s growing gaming industry.”
