Ever since the announcement of the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5, it feels like the doors have swung wide open for Xbox games to march onto Sony’s gaming platform. Lately, there’s been quite the buzz about Marcus Fenix making his way to PlayStation, with his ongoing battle against the Locust Horde possibly coming to PS5 later this year. It now appears this release might include a collection of the first three Gears of War games, hitting both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S simultaneously.
### A Gears of War Collection Heads to PS5
Rumor has it, according to the well-known leaker eXtas1s, a Gears of War collection is in the pipeline. While the exact announcement timing remains uncertain, they insist that when it does get introduced, it will roll out across multiple platforms from day one. Interestingly, the game is expected to support cross-play, enabling players to team up from PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
In eXtas1s’s own words, “I can confirm that the moment the Gears Collection is announced—which I still don’t know when that will be—it will be a multiplatform release from the get-go,” he said, with a translation provided by ResetEra member Rychu. He added, “Once these remasters of the old Gears games are out, they’re set to support cross-platform play. The only thing I haven’t been able to nail down is if there will be a Switch version. But rest assured, it’ll be playable across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.”
This isn’t the first time whispers of Gears of War venturing onto PS5 have surfaced. Earlier in the month, Jez Corden from Windows Central suggested that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition might arrive on Sony’s console by 2025.
As with any rumor, it’s best to take all this with a pinch of skepticism. While many insiders seem to echo one another’s whispers, the unpredictable nature of game development means plans could shift in a flash, making all of this moot. Until there’s an official word, we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
