Snap Introduces More Affordable Spectacles AR Glasses for Students and Teachers

Snap, known for their popular Snapchat app, is making waves by significantly reducing the cost of its newest Spectacles AR glasses for students and teachers. Originally launched at $1,200, these high-tech glasses are now available at a 50% discount for educational purposes.

Released in September 2024, the fifth-generation of Spectacles, called Spectacles ’24, was initially aimed at developers, with a subscription model priced at $100 monthly for a year. While this latest iteration of AR glasses introduced substantial upgrades over the previous version from 2021—such as a wider field of view, improved resolution, innovative hand-tracking, and revamped software—the steep price tag proved challenging for educators and students eager to dive into augmented reality app development.

To address this, Snap is offering an educational discount that slashes the price to $49.50 a month for a minimum commitment of 12 months, with the continued rate thereafter. Alternatively, one can make a single payment of $594 to cover the first year, with the $49.50 per month fee applying afterward.
