Though it’s been more than ten years since the original made its mark, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 remains remarkably true to its predecessor. The first game has achieved cult status over the years, and fans have been eagerly awaiting this update. Now, Space Marine 2 is available at a fantastic price for Black Friday on physical copies for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. This sale marks the lowest price point we’ve seen for the game on any platform. While the PC version doesn’t enjoy as steep a discount, Fanatical offers Steam codes for $52.79, down from the usual $59.99.
Space Marine 2 stands out by not pursuing the extras that many flashy action games offer—and frankly, it doesn’t need them. Set in the distant future of the 41st millennium, the game dives straight into an unending war. You play as Titus, an Ultramarine devoted to the Emperor of Mankind, who is getting back into action after taking a few centuries off.
The Warhammer 40,000 universe is intricately detailed, and I’ve spent years delving into codices and rulebooks, immersing myself in novels that dig deep into the lore, and investigating fan theories online. What strikes me about Space Marine 2 is how approachable it is for newcomers as well. You won’t need to constantly pause to piece together the story. Yet, it fully embraces the 40K style, featuring elements like robotic cherubs and the mechanized devotees of the machine cult aboard Titus’ battle barge. The backdrop of the main campaign wonderfully encapsulates the vast, gothic, and at times, downright bizarre environment of the Imperium of Man and the Imperial Guard.
However, the true heart of the game lies in its combat sequences. Titus charges into swarms of Tyranids, tearing through enemies with his gauntlets and smashing them with his powerful boots. Throw in a few exciting weapons, like a flamethrower for toasting pesky Rippers or a laser sniper rifle for precision hits, and you’ve got a truly thrilling experience on your hands.
