Later this month, Studio Fizbin, the creators behind Reignbreaker, is set to close its doors. The announcement came through a statement posted on their website and highlighted by Game Developer. The studio revealed that the closure will happen shortly after the release of Reignbreaker on March 18th. The founder and CEO, Alexander Pieper, explained that a major factor in this decision was Thunderful’s choice to significantly cut back on internal development.
“The gaming industry is experiencing challenging times right now, and like many other fantastic studios, we have not been spared,” Pieper expressed. He detailed that Thunderful, their parent company, made the announcement in November 2024 to sharply reduce their in-house projects. This move, as shared by Thunderful’s CEO Martin in the most recent quarterly update, included impacts on Studio Fizbin. Following this, the team explored new endeavors to delve into after wrapping up Reignbreaker. Unfortunately, none of these ventures gained traction, resulting in the tough choice to close down.
Pieper went on to extend heartfelt gratitude: “A huge thank you goes out to our fans for supporting us through your purchases, fan art, comments, reviews, passion, and what feels like boundless support.”
He also expressed appreciation for their partners and supporters: “We’d like to acknowledge our business partners, Medienboard, the MfG, Creative Europe, and the federal funding organizations for standing by us.”
Lastly, paying tribute to the team, he shared, “The deepest thanks are reserved for our team members, both those sticking with us until the end and those who’ve chosen different paths. Fizbin and its creations were brought to life by our team, and it’s your passion and talent that made this an inspiring journey into the art of game-making—a task that sometimes feels like performing magic.”
