As much as the seasoned Elder Scrolls enthusiasts (that’s all of my coworkers) are celebrating today’s exciting stream and sudden drop of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remake, those of us with our sights set on the future might find solace in the fact that Todd Howard has acknowledged The Elder Scrolls 6 is still in the works! Yes, he bravely stated that the team is actively working on it.
His full quote, shared before diving into a feast of juicy Oblivion Remaster news and footage, was, "obviously we’re working on the 6th chapter here."
Wow, fantastic! This little nugget of information is the most significant update we’ve received on The Elder Scrolls 6 since March 2024. That’s when Bethesda confirmed they had early builds of the game floating around for testers to tinker with. They even hinted that it was fun, which, naturally, is what you’d hope for in a game!
Before this latest snippet, the last major update came from a former Skyrim designer back in October 2023, who tantalizingly advised not to expect an update on ES6 until a mere six months before its release. This came just a month after Phil Spencer predicted that we’d be looking at a five-year wait for its release date. At the time, it seemed a bit laughable, yet here we are, nearly two years later, and information is still scarce.
In terms of solid updates from Bethesda, it’s been pretty quiet for years. They announced back in August 2023 that development was underway, which was about five years post the E3 announcement. Call me crazy, but do you think they might have jumped the gun with revealing the game so early?
All jokes and sarcasm aside, it’s nice to see a flicker of life from Elder Scrolls 6. It’s been an eternity. I mean, I was just a student when this sequel was announced, and now I’m an adult juggling bills, not-so-great habits, and a handful of dating apps on my phone. There’s no doubt Bethesda, arguably the best first-person RPG developer around, will deliver something amazing. But seriously, could we at least see some concept art? Liam Neeson had more tangible proof of his daughter’s existence in Taken than Elder Scrolls fans have for this game’s reality.
Drop your thoughts below if you still feel any excitement, and speculate with me on how much student loan debt might accrue by the time Elder Scrolls 6 hits the shelves!
