The renowned handheld console manufacturer, Ayaneo, has introduced its latest top-tier model, the Ayaneo 3. Building on the triumphs of its predecessor, this new device retains a familiar design and button configuration but offers several notable hardware upgrades.
On the Ayaneo blog, it’s revealed that you can choose the Ayaneo 3 with either an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processor or the mightier AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. Adding to the allure is a seven-inch high-refresh LCD or OLED HDR display, designed for an optimal immersive experience. Also catching the eye are two additional buttons on the back, providing users with more control options.
So far, Ayaneo has been tight-lipped on further specifics regarding the Ayaneo 3. Enthusiasts will need some patience to discover more about its RAM, storage, and pricing. The Ayaneo 2, its predecessor, offers options of 16GB or 32GB of RAM paired with either 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB of storage space. Its starting price was $1,099, climbing to $1,549 for the limited-edition B.Duck model. This suggests similar configurations and potentially slightly higher prices for the Ayaneo 3.
Diving into the specs, the Ayaneo 3 stands out as one of the first handheld consoles boasting the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. While many current games aren’t harnessing the NPU found in the HX 370 processor, its extra four cores, Zen 5 architecture, and AMD Radeon 890M integrated GPU provide a strong performance boost over the Ryzen 7 8840U. This makes it a powerhouse, outpacing many top-tier PC gaming handhelds, usually powered by the Ryzen Z1 Extreme.
The Ayaneo 3 enters a market brimming with competition. The likes of the ROG Ally 2, MSI Claw 8 AI+, and Lenovo Legion Go Gen Two are anticipated to debut either by the year’s end or early 2025. It will be intriguing to see how the Ayaneo 3 carves out its niche and what kind of gaming experience it will offer in the sea of handheld consoles.
