Valve has added the Steam Deck OLED to its certified refurbished lineup, offering gamers the chance to grab this upgraded gaming device at a significant discount. If you’re looking for the OLED version, you can now get your hands on one directly from Valve at prices that are a solid 20% lower than buying a brand new unit.
For those keeping an eye out, both the 1TB and 512GB OLED models are up for grabs in this refurbished program. The 1TB model is tagged at $519, while the 512GB model goes for $439. In contrast, a brand new 1TB version will set you back $649, and the 512GB one at $549, meaning you’re saving $120 on the 1TB variant and $110 on the 512GB. With these discounts, it’s interesting to see that the refurbished 1TB OLED model is actually $30 cheaper than purchasing a new 512GB OLED model.
Now, the only other Steam Deck version that comes close to these refurbished OLED prices, in terms of being a tad cheaper, is the older 256GB LCD variant, which is currently priced at $399. Valve does offer certified refurbished LCD Steam Decks, but right now, all three models—the 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB—are sold out. Plus, you can no longer buy new versions of the 512GB and 64GB LCD models.
The Steam Deck OLED goes beyond just swapping out its screen. Sure, the shift to an OLED may seem like the headliner, but there’s more to it. This version takes the leap to a 90Hz refresh rate with a bigger 7.4-inch display that’s got HDR support, and it reaches 400 nits of brightness, peaking at 1000 nits in HDR mode. Compare that to the LCD variant, which was slightly smaller at 7 inches, lacked HDR, and capped at a refresh rate of 60Hz with 400 nits of brightness.
Underneath, there’s more to the story. The battery capacity jumps from a 40Whr to a 50Whr unit, promising anywhere from 3 to 12 hours of gameplay depending on what you’re playing, whereas the LCD version’s battery runs between 2-8 hours. The OLED also boasts an upgrade in RAM, moving from 5500MT/s LPDDR5 to a faster 6400MT/s LPDDR5, and its AMD APU has been refined from a 7nm to a 6nm process node.
You can pick up a refurbished Steam Deck OLED if you’re in select regions, such as Canada, the EU, the UK, and the US. These units come with a one-year warranty like brand new ones, though it might extend further based on your local regulations.
